LAWRENCE TU
Lawrence Tu was named executive vice president and general counsel of NBC in June 2001. He supervises the NBC Law Department, which provides legal advice to all NBC business units for their ongoing operations and for new strategic plans and acquisitions. He also oversees NBC’s Washington office, which is responsible for the company’s regulatory and legislative agenda at the FCC and in Congress. He had been with O’Melveny Meyers, first as an associate and later as a partner, since 1986, with the exception of 1994–95, when he served as general counsel of the Asia-Pacific region of Goldman-Sachs.
Prior to O’Melveny Meyers, Tu spent three years as an attorney for the U.S. State Department. He also clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and for Second Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Walter Mansfield.
Tu holds a J.D. magna cum laude and an A.B. summa cum laude from Harvard University, as well as a bachelor of arts from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes scholar.
